The S.T.A.R.S. (Students Training as Role Models) program has existed for twelve years and is a long-term mentoring program for at-risk youth, directed by uniformed police officers.  The program meets weekly, feed the kids dinner, and takes them on monthly outings.  The kids are brought in between 9-11 years of age and are graduated at City Council once they complete a semester of high school (the next graduation is next Tuesday, Jan 29).

The program does lots of community service including: Adopt-a-Block, Graffiti Paint Out, quarterly visits to Autumn Hills Convalescent Hospital delivering crafts.

The program is not funded outside of a CDBG Federal Grant which pays our employee.  All other funding (about $6000/year) is supplied by donors.

The photos below were taken at Autumn Hills delivering our pine cone turkeys to the residents, a group photo taken at the Reagan Library for the Welcome Home Ceremony for Purple Heart Recipients, and a shot of the kids doing the Adopt-a-Block at our old site.
